What is Rapture? | O le a le Siitiaga?

The Rapture is a Christian teaching about a future event when Jesus Christ will come for His followers, and believers will be caught up to meet Him in the air.

The word “rapture” itself does not appear in most English Bibles. It comes from the Latin rapiemur, meaning “caught up,” which translates the Greek idea found in 1 Thessalonians 4:17.

📖 What the Bible says

1 Thessalonians 4:16–17 describes it this way:

“The Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout… and the dead in Christ shall rise first. Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air…”

The passage describes several key events:

  1. Jesus descends from heaven — Christ Himself comes.
  2. The dead in Christ rise first — believers who have died are resurrected.
  3. Living believers are caught up — those who are alive in Christ are taken up.
  4. Believers meet Jesus in the air — the meeting is with the Lord.
  5. Believers will be with the Lord forever — the passage ends with this promise.

✨ Another important passage

1 Corinthians 15:51–52 says that believers will be changed:

“We shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye…”

This emphasizes that the transformation will happen suddenly.

📖 Some Views?

There are several major views concerning the timing of the Rapture, including pre-tribulation, mid-tribulation, and post-tribulation interpretations. These are theological interpretations of how different biblical passages fit together rather than something that Revelation 6 explicitly states.

🙏 The central message

Regardless of differences over the timing, the central promise in 1 Thessalonians 4:18 is:

“Wherefore comfort one another with these words.”

The biblical emphasis is therefore not simply fear about future events, but hope in Jesus Christ, resurrection, and being with the Lord.
